Iyanla Vanzant in discussing the COVID 19 pandemic with Oprah Winfrey on the show “Fear Not” said, “I don’t call this a crisis. I call this a divine opportunity… new possibilities”.
Why was that impactful to me? Because viewers were reminded that what you call a thing, is what it will be for you.
2020, for me, started with a feeling of being unsettled and unclear of my goals for the year.
This was foreign territory and I was lost. As a planner, I know what the next year will look like before the current one ends. Except for 2020! The year started off with a jarring set of events; an earthquake in February followed by a global pandemic. If that wasn’t jarring enough, there was a huge outcry against injustices to Black Americans and racism that were highlighted by the heart-wrenching deaths captured on social media. That leads us to the question, what could possibly go wrong next? In light of all that was taking place, the memes on social media about 2020 have included requests to be “slapped into 2021”.
In the midst of it all, I hear the call to surrender. This year is mine to live my purpose. As I learn to surrender to and be guided by God, something phenomenal is occurring to me. I ask myself the questions: What are you calling 2020 – are you cursing it? Calling it by defeatist terms? Yes, it has been scary and unsettling but what will you call into being for your life?
I am calling 2020 my year of purpose and I am excited to see what it blesses me with.
What are you calling 2020?
