WARNING: When you watch others, don’t be so quick to believe everything you see. Sometimes we measure our lives and our worth by what we observe in the media. Social media is particularly deceitful in creating FOMO (the fear of missing out).
I was recently watching a television show when someone looked up, saw the host and said, “did you know they tried to commit suicide last week?” My mouth dropped open in disbelief! I couldn’t believe the person on the screen, seemingly all put together, was silently imploding.
We don’t know what people are going through or how they are quietly suffering. Time and time again we are reminded that glamorous pictures and “happy” videos may mask an unbelievable level of anxiety and unhappiness.
So we should be careful not to measure our lives solely by the outward appearances of others. We, ourselves, may actually be living lives more fulfilling and satisfying than what is being portrayed by someone on camera.
