I was coaching a young woman recently on a speech she was giving at an online graduation ceremony.
After she presented her speech, I provided feedback and told her the speech was good. Her reply surprised and delighted me! She said “I want my speech to be phenomenal. I want people to remember me. What can I do to make the speech phenomenal?
That took our coaching to a different level. We probed more into her experiences, tapped into her emotions and she formulated a speech with stories, a catch phrase and even humour. When she was done, it was a completely different speech!
The evening after she formally presented it at her graduation, she sent me a note. She was ecstatic because the speech evoked high praise from those who listened. Comments included “you are amazing”, “soooo proud” and lots of heart and applause emoji. Her joy was my joy!
She achieved her goal because of the following:
- “Good” was not enough. Her goal was to be phenomenal!
- She was willing to go deeper into preparation and pull materials from within to make this goal happen.
Sometimes we tell ourselves that “good” is enough when deep down in our hearts, we want to be remembered. We want to be phenomenal. That young lady reminded me that once we are willing to put in the work then that is exactly what we will achieve.
Are you working on a project or life goal and your aim is to be phenomenal. Message me. Let’s see how I can help.
