It is hurricane season. A time of anxiety for those who know what this season can bring.
I wanted to write an inspirational post after a recent tropical storm but got stuck!! Maybe because the next day after the storm I was in a weird mood. Seeing the damage from just a tropical storm was surprising but also the blanket of grey skies covering the island felt suffocating and I just wanted to stay inside.
My sister asked me, “what are you going to do if the next day looks as grey?” I had no answer for that but I am so thankful the next day brought blue skies.
In speaking with other people, it seems that storm triggered anxiety and fears. It brought up painful memories of a previous hurricane. Some people were triggered during the storm itself and others after.
No two storms are alike and how we react varies. One thing I’ve learned is that there is nothing wrong with talking through our feelings or getting help if they trigger anxiety or fear. Know you are not alone and take comfort in that.
For me, fortunately, blue skies followed the grey skies of the storm! Now time for the clean up!
