In quarantine, the snack attacks are real! If you aren’t careful you begin to mindlessly munch on things. I can’t tell you how often I open my cupboards and the fridge searching for something to snack on.
Well, I had to start nipping this habit in the bud because I started to feel bloated and clogged.
The first step to combat this issue was preparing my snacks for the day and setting them up nicely on the table.
Normally this would consist of fruits, nuts and salads. Of course, some members of the family rebelled LOL. I was preparing some apples one day when one remarked, “Fruits again! Are you trying to turn me into the fruitarian!” Sigh!! We may all become vegetarians and fruitarians after this quarantine is over.
The second step was increasing my water intake and limiting other drinks; not just soda and juices but anything with a high sugar content. Water seems boring? Trust me, I know! Drop some strawberries, lemon or other fresh fruit in it and voila, flavoured water!
The third step is cooking local, if you can. We started getting local vegetables and incorporating them in our meals. Eggplant, tomatoes, okras, cucumbers, bok choy, salad greens, even micro greens are available from local farmers who also deliver. Fresh and tasty and supporting local!
The fourth step was intermittent fasting but, stay tune for a separate post on that topic.
Meanwhile, steps one to three have been helpful for me, especially in becoming more intentional about my snacks. Try it and let me know if it helps with the unhealthy snack attacks!
