The Crooked Yellow Tree

Tree of inspiration – best known as the Golden Trumpet Tree

I went walking recently with the family when I came upon this tree. It was gorgeously crowned in yellow flowers. Of course, I paused to take all kinds of selfies with it!

I did take one photo of just the tree and it was only recently when scrolling through the photos that it hit me: this tree was not growing upright; it was bent and growing at an angle! Yet it was growing so beautifully that it whispered, “caption me #embraceyourimperfections”.

I still worry about looking perfect, sounding perfect, being perfect. Problem with that is, I will never be perfect! Like the crooked yellow tree, I need to embrace my imperfections.

As a Christian, I understand that there is only one perfect Being and that is Christ. Oddly enough, while we have images of Him as a man with long hair, the only real record of His beauty is illustrated in His transfiguration. Look up the definition of transfiguration and you will see what I mean. His perfect beauty was not reflected in His physical appearance but demonstrated in what he did, what he taught and how he treated others.

So I need to love my flaws!  If the Spirit of Christ lives within me (which is the Spirit of love) then His Spirit will shine through gloriously and spectacularly for others to see. When they see that Spirit then they will be more apt to overlook the flaws and imperfections. Just as I did with that tree!
